Meanwhile, a delegation of CPI(M) MPs, headed by party general secretary MA Baby, visited Uri in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir to meet families impacted by the Pakistani shelling. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (July 11), the CPI(M) leader stated that the Central government must undertake necessary actions to regain the trust of the valley’s residents.
“We visited several areas in Uri yesterday where significant damage occurred. We also met family members of Nargis, the woman who lost her life in the shelling. We encountered residents dealing with substantial damage to their homes.

“The affected individuals have been compensated with Rs 1.5 lakh for their damages, which is an outrageous sum. We estimated a minimum of Rs 10 lakh in damages at each location,” Baby noted.
He mentioned that the delegation has asked the people to submit their assessments in writing to senior CPI(M) leader in J-K, M Y Tarigami, who would relay it to the party leadership. “We will bring this issue to Parliament.” “Another significant concern is the insufficient number of bunkers for protection. More bunkers need to be constructed, and we will address this with the administration and raise it in the House,” Baby added.
The CPI(M) general secretary indicated that there are various political matters that also require attention.
“A joint command meeting (the unified headquarters meeting of security forces) presided over by the (J&K) lieutenant governor was held, but the elected chief minister was not permitted to attend.
“Moreover, there’s the question of restoring Article 370 and statehood…this is a Union territory, and even the state police is under Delhi’s control,” he said.
The CPI(M) leader noted that following the Pahalgam terror attack, the people of J&K united with the people of India, delivering a strong message to the nation.
