Mumbai Airport to Close Runways from 11 AM to 5 PM on November 20: Discover the Reason Mumbai Airport to Close Runways from 11 AM to 5 PM on November 20: Discover the Reason
Flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will be entirely suspended for six hours on November 20, as the airport carries out its annual post-monsoon runway maintenance. Both runways, the main one (09/27) and the secondary (14/32), will be closed from 11 am to 5 pm, with no take-offs or landings allowed during this timeframe.

The airport announced the temporary halt in an advisory released earlier this week, emphasizing that the closure is essential for infrastructure maintenance to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance with international aviation standards.

In a post on X, Mumbai airport stated, “CSMIA will have a scheduled runway closure on 20 November 2025 between 1100 hrs and 1700 hrs IST for annual post-monsoon maintenance. We appreciate your understanding as we strive to maintain safe and efficient operations.”

Airport officials mentioned that a required NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) was issued six months ahead, giving airlines and other stakeholders ample time to adjust their schedules in response to the closure.

During the maintenance period, specialized engineering and airside teams will perform thorough inspections of the runway surfaces, focusing on both micro and macro structural elements that gradually deteriorate due to frequent aircraft operations.

CSMIA ranks among the busiest single-runway airports globally, managing nearly 900 flights daily. The airport spans around 1,033 acres, featuring a comprehensive airside infrastructure consisting of runways, taxiways, and aircraft aprons.
