Agoda’s latest findings reveal that Indian travellers are keen on vacations that blend snow, cultural experiences, and family-friendly activities. “A growing number of Indian families are delighting in travel during the winter season,” stated Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda. “This trend underscores families’ increasing desire for experiences that foster connection, cultural exploration, and the festive ambiance of the holiday season in colder regions across Asia and Europe.”
Within Asia, South Korea, China, and Kazakhstan have shown the highest year-on-year search interest, with South Korea at the forefront with +226%, followed by China at +105%, and Kazakhstan at +68%. Taiwan (+44%) and Japan (+41%) also continue to attract families looking for a mix of tradition and adventure. From the ski resorts of South Korea and K-drama-inspired activities to China’s renowned ice festivals, Indian families are eager for immersive, culture-rich vacations.

Kazakhstan’s stunning mountain landscapes provide nature-based getaways, while Japan continues to enchant visitors with its hot springs, winter light displays, and attractions such as Tokyo Disney Resort and Universal Studios Japan. Taiwan captures attention with its vibrant lantern festivals, lively night markets, and a harmonious blend of urban and outdoor activities, making it one of Asia’s most inviting winter retreats.
In Europe, the trend is just as prominent. Austria (+82%) tops the growth list, closely followed by Germany (+43%), Finland (+33%), Italy (+27%), and France (+20%). These countries, celebrated for their Christmas markets, alpine ski resorts, and cozy festive atmospheres, are highly favored by Indian families in search of genuine European winter experiences.
The rise in interest also reflects a significant shift in Indian travel patterns. Families are increasingly moving away from typical sun-and-sand vacations towards seasonal, experience-driven travel that celebrates local customs and holiday traditions. Enhanced international flight options, simpler visa processes, and a desire to explore new destinations have made distant winter getaways more accessible than ever.
