France has lifted the airport transit visa requirement for Indian nationals traveling through its airports, effective April 10, 2026.

As per an official announcement, Indian citizens with ordinary passports are no longer required to obtain an airport transit visa while transiting through the international zones of French airports. This exemption applies only to those passengers who stay within the transit area during their layover while traveling to a third nation.

This decision was positively received by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) during their briefing. Officials stated that the implementation of visa-free transit for Indian citizens through French airports is a result of an agreement between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron during Macron’s visit to India in February 2026.
The MEA highlighted that this decision symbolizes the long-standing partnership between India and France and is anticipated to facilitate smoother travel and enhance people-to-people connections between the two nations.
