Following the malfunction, operations of both phases of the Gulmarg cable car service, commonly referred to as Gondola, were halted, according to the officials.
Officials mentioned that hundreds of tourists enjoying the ride were safely rescued from the cabins by personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
They added that restoration efforts for the cable car system are currently in progress.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated that the government is “closely monitoring” the situation.
All cabins remain secure, and rescue operations for the safe evacuation of stranded tourists are ongoing with trained teams on-site, the chief minister noted in a post on X.
“The situation is fully under control, and there is no reason for concern,” he emphasized.
