Data released by the state Tourism Department on Friday indicated that Goa welcomed 46,39,165 visitors in the first five months of 2026, reflecting a 0.39% increase from the previous year.
Among the total arrivals, domestic tourists made up 44,37,018, while foreign tourist numbers reached 2,02,147.
In May alone, the coastal state saw 9,69,090 tourists, a 4.53% rise compared to May 2025, according to the department.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte mentioned that the increase in visitor numbers can be attributed to strong connectivity, a range of tourism experiences, and growing confidence among travelers.
“While our beaches remain iconic, travelers are increasingly delving into Goa’s culture, heritage, spirituality, wellness, hinterland experiences, festivals, and culinary traditions,” he explained.

Khaunte emphasized that this diversified growth is aiding the state in creating a more resilient tourism economy, ensuring local communities benefit from tourism.
The department highlighted that domestic tourism is a significant driver of overall arrivals, while international travel is bolstered by improved air connectivity, charter services, and cruise tourism.
They noted that Goa’s dual-airport infrastructure — Dabolim Airport and Manohar International Airport at Mopa — has enhanced the state’s accessibility and broadened its reach in both domestic and international markets.
Tourism Director Kedar Naik remarked that the steady growth recorded in the first five months of 2026 illustrates the strength and adaptability of Goa’s tourism industry.
“Through targeted destination development, improved connectivity, and the promotion of varied tourism experiences, Goa is attracting visitors year-round and inviting them to explore different aspects of the destination,” he stated.
Naik added that the department is focused on enhancing visitor experiences while promoting responsible and sustainable tourism growth.
The Tourism Department mentioned that the state enters the latter half of 2026 with positive momentum and remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive and sustainable tourism ecosystem aimed at long-term growth.
