“This evening, I informed Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman that the State Department has acknowledged the stable conditions on the ground and concluded that Bangladesh is now safer for travel,” Gor remarked in a post on X.

He noted that the overall travel advisory had been downgraded from Level 3 to Level 2, while mentioning that certain areas still have additional restrictions and should be avoided, calling this a positive update.
Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed that the updated advisory reflects an increasing confidence from the US regarding the country’s security environment and stability.
It commended the government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for making “visible progress in strengthening law and order” over the last six months, asserting that the downgrade highlights the advantageous trajectory of the US-Bangladesh relationship.

The State Department’s advisory released on the same day identified ongoing risks including unrest, crime, terrorism, and kidnapping, urging travelers to steer clear of all gatherings, even peaceful ones, due to the potential for protests to escalate violently.
The advisory pointed out that criminal activities such as muggings, burglaries, assaults, and drug trafficking are prevalent in major cities; however, it mentioned there is no evidence indicating that foreigners are being specifically targeted. A Level 4 “Do Not Travel” warning remains in effect for the Chittagong Hill Tracts, citing threats of kidnappings, separatist violence, and reported incidents of IED explosions and shootings, as well as for areas near the Myanmar border and refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar.
Gor arrived in Bangladesh for his inaugural visit, stating that his discussions with Rahman focused on enhancing the US-Bangladesh relationship, highlighting “numerous positive developments.”
