The airlines announced that alternative flight routes may result in delays and possible cancellations. They expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to passengers because of this unexpected disruption.

In its advisory, Air India stated, “Given the current situation in Iran, coupled with the airspace closure, and prioritizing the safety of our passengers, Air India flights traversing the region are now being redirected, which may result in delays. Some flights that cannot be rerouted are being cancelled. We encourage passengers to check their flight status on our website before arriving at the airport. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this unforeseen disruption may have caused. The safety of our passengers and crew is our utmost priority.”
IndiGo also released a similar advisory, providing passengers with options for rebooking or refunds.
“With the abrupt closure of Iranian airspace, certain international flights have been affected. Our teams are actively assessing the situation and are dedicated to assisting impacted customers by offering viable alternatives. This situation is beyond our control, and we regret any inconvenience it may have caused to your travel arrangements. If your flight is impacted, we recommend visiting our website for flexible rebooking options or refund claims, as per your preference. We remain committed to keeping you informed and supporting you during this evolving situation. Thank you for your understanding and patience,” the statement read.
Likewise, SpiceJet posted on X, “Due to the airspace closure in Iran, certain flights may be affected. Passengers are encouraged to verify their flight status at or contact our 24/7 Reservation Helpline at +91 (0)124 4983410 or +91 (0)124 7101600 for assistance.”
According to news agency AP, Iran has extended the closure of its airspace to commercial aircraft without explanation as tensions with the US remain high on Thursday (January 15).
