Tourism in the Union Territory has been greatly affected following the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, mostly tourists, on April 22.
Mufti brought attention to the economic hardships experienced by those reliant on tourism. “Hotel owners are struggling, and pony operators are facing difficulties. The situation in Patnitop mirrors that of Pahalgam. If the Yatra proceeds smoothly, I am positive that tourism will improve,” she added.

During a one-day PDP convention, the former chief minister called on the National Conference (NC)-led government to provide financial assistance to individuals burdened by loans. She suggested reducing installment amounts and extending repayment periods to relieve economic pressures.
Discussing international relations, Mufti stressed the importance of peaceful dialogue between India and Pakistan. “Both nations are struggling financially and allocating significant resources to defense. That funding should instead benefit the well-being of our citizens,” she asserted. Criticizing Pakistan’s reliance on foreign aid, she cautioned against ongoing conflict. “Their nation operates on loans from external banks. Our country is flourishing. However, if we remain entangled in war, the threat will always loom. In the event of an attack leading to war, uncertainty will continue in our nation, leading to increased poverty.”

When asked about the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) 11 years in power, Mufti replied, “The BJP representatives can better respond regarding their improvements. What can I say about that?”
She also held the NC accountable for its electoral promises, urging the ruling party to honor commitments made to the citizens. “If the National Conference has 50 MLAs and three MPs who pledged to provide 200 units of free electricity, they should fulfill that promise,” she declared. “They mentioned giving free gas cylinders. They need to follow through on that. They also promised to create jobs for one lakh unemployed youth,” she emphasized, adding, “Whatever people-centric agenda they have, we are ready to support them wholeheartedly.”
