On Friday, Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh unveiled its official tourism website, “VisitDharamshala.com”, marking a significant advancement in its digital tourism efforts. The Dalai Lama, a revered Tibetan spiritual leader, officially launched the portal in a soft-launch ceremony at his residence in McLeodganj, signifying a new chapter in promoting the area’s natural beauty and cultural richness to a global audience.

This initiative, led by the Dharamshala Hotel and Restaurant Association, intends to create a centralized online hub where visitors can explore, plan, and fully engage with the wonders of Kangra Valley.

The launch event was attended by notable figures, including Association president Ashwani Bamba, Chairman Onkar Nehria, District Tourism Officer Vinay Dhiman, executive committee members, local business owners, adventure operators, Waste Warriors representatives, and other guests.

In expressing his support for the project, the Dalai Lama referred to the website as “A milestone effort that will enhance Himachal’s tourism presence on the global stage”.

During a press conference, president Ashwani Bamba shared that the new website would function as a thorough guide for travelers, providing genuine travel information, current weather updates, and hotel booking options throughout the district, from the majestic Dhauladhar ranges to the tranquil Pong Dam Lake.

“Our aim is to promote responsible and eco-conscious tourism while creating job opportunities for local communities,” Bamba stated.

“To guarantee transparency and trustworthiness, only verified hotels, guesthouses, and service providers will be listed on the platform,” he added.

He further noted that the global allure of Dharamshala, bolstered by the presence of the Dalai Lama, would now be enhanced by a digital gateway that fosters accessibility and friendliness for visitors.

The website includes extensive information on local attractions, monasteries, temples, lakes, waterfalls, adventure pursuits, cuisine, crafts, and cultural experiences. Guests can directly book accommodations in over 100 verified hotels, including prominent 3-star and 4-star establishments, with confirmations sent directly to the hotels.

With this digital initiative, Dharamshala aspires to merge tradition with technology, establishing itself as a benchmark for sustainable and intelligent tourism in the Himalayas.

The state government has designated Kangra, which is home to three Shakti Peethas and two significant monasteries, as a “tourism district,” according to the district tourism officer.

“VisitDharamshala.com” will serve as a crucial digital link connecting visitors with the essence of the region’s natural beauty, spirituality, and hospitality, the officer remarked.
