India and China have reached an agreement to expedite the revival of direct air connectivity while implementing effective measures to enhance bilateral relations, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday (June 13). This development followed a meeting between Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong in New Delhi on Thursday, during Sun’s two-day visit to India.

In its statement, the MEA noted that both parties agreed to “expedite the resumption of direct air services” between the two countries—an essential step toward fostering people-to-people interactions and boosting the aviation and tourism industries.

The discussions also addressed other initiatives aimed at strengthening ties, including finalizing an updated Air Services Agreement. The Indian delegation expressed optimism regarding concluding the agreement soon.
