Numerous IndiGo flights from Jammu and Srinagar airports have been cancelled in recent days, leading to protests from affected travelers.
The trains, designated as 02439 (New Delhi to Udhampur Vande Bharat) and 02440 (Udhampur to New Delhi Vande Bharat), will feature 20 coaches and run three trips in each direction.
Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, mentioned that the Jammu Division initiates special train services during emergencies for the convenience and safety of passengers.
“Given the rising number of passengers resulting from repeated flight cancellations, the division has resolved to operate a special Vande Bharat train from New Delhi to Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan (Udhampur). This will help ensure that passengers reach their destinations punctually, minimizing disruptions to their travel plans,” Singhal stated, as reported by PTI.
Train No 02439 will depart from New Delhi at 6 am, reaching Udhampur at 2 pm, while 02440 is set to leave Udhampur at 3 pm, arriving in New Delhi at 11 pm. Both trains will stop at Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, Pathankot Cantt, Jammu Tawi, and various other intermediate stations.
Travelers can access the latest schedules and book tickets through the official Indian Railways website or the NTES app. “Passengers are encouraged to verify train information through the official Indian Railways website or the NTES (National Train Enquiry System) app before heading out,” Singhal added.
In a post on X, Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh remarked, “A special #VandeBharat Train has been introduced between #Udhampur and New Delhi to alleviate the inconvenience faced by passengers due to air flight disruptions. This service is currently scheduled from December 12 to 14.”
