IndiGo faced ongoing operational issues on Saturday (December 6), with Mumbai Airport reporting 117 flight cancellations by noon. This included 54 incoming flights and 63 outgoing flights, leading to further travel disruptions in major metropolitan areas.

At Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the impact was also substantial, with 37 departures and 49 arrivals cancelled earlier in the day. Airport officials urged passengers to verify their flight statuses before proceeding to the terminal.

The airline has been grappling with a mix of crew shortages and operational hurdles this week, which has led to widespread delays and cancellations, disrupting passenger travel nationwide. Delhi Airport released a statement indicating that IndiGo’s operations were “gradually resuming” after significant disruptions the previous day, which saw over 1,000 flights cancelled.
“We are pleased to announce that IndiGo flight operations are now gradually returning to normal… Please verify your booking and flight status before heading out,” the airport communicated.
On Friday (December 5), the government introduced measures aimed at supporting the stabilization of IndiGo’s operations following the extensive disruptions. These initiatives are intended to facilitate passenger movement during a peak travel period.

Additionally, SpiceJet expanded its schedule from Mumbai for December 6, increasing its departures on both domestic and international routes. The airline stated that this was in response to the heightened demand resulting from IndiGo’s cancellations.

The Indian Railways has also boosted capacity on various routes to accommodate passenger needs. A total of 116 additional coaches have been added across 37 premium trains operating over 114 extra trips.

Southern Railway implemented the most augmentations, followed by Northern Railway, Western Railway, East Central Railway, East Coast Railway, Eastern Railway, and Northeast Frontier Railway. The expansions include Chair Car, Sleeper, 3AC, and 2AC coaches, depending on the route.

Railways also launched special train services, including:

  • Gorakhpur–Anand Vihar Terminal–Gorakhpur Special (05591/05592)
  • New Delhi–Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Vande Bharat Special (02439/02440)
  • New Delhi–Mumbai Central Superfast Special (04002/04001)
  • Hazrat Nizamuddin–Thiruvananthapuram Central Superfast Special (04080)

These initiatives, effective from December 6, are designed to enhance availability for passengers amidst ongoing aviation challenges.
