According to Jammu airport director Devender Yadav, the new terminal building— featuring expanded parking, six aerobridges, and a five-fold increase in capacity— is expected to be completed by the end of next year. The structural work and the elevated access road are already finished, with the remaining construction progressing at an accelerated pace.
“We experienced significant challenges with flight operations last winter due to poor visibility caused by dense fog. To resolve this issue, the airfield navigation system has been upgraded from CAT-1 to CAT-2.

“CAT-2 incorporates more advanced instruments, allowing flight operations in reduced visibility. Procedures for these low-visibility operations have been implemented, and we have held a preparatory meeting with all stakeholders. We are ready for low-visibility flight operations,” Yadav informed reporters.
Addressing the long-standing request for late-night operations, Yadav stated that the airfield is technically prepared for nighttime operations.
“Being ready for night operations is just one factor, but there are many other considerations. In Jammu, the situation is more complex due to security and defense aspects. However, we are actively working on it,” the airport director explained.
When asked about the ongoing modernization efforts at the airport and the anticipated completion date, Yadav mentioned that the work was initially scheduled for completion by June of next year but is now expected to be finished by the end of 2026, primarily due to delays caused by various reasons, including the initiation of Operation Sindoor.

“The new airport’s architecture is both modern and advanced. The size of the building will be five times larger than the current terminal. Similar to Delhi’s T3, an elevated bridge for departures is being constructed here,” he added.
He noted that the expansion will provide 10 aircraft parking stands and six aerobridges, while the parking capacity at the airfield will be tripled compared to the existing facilities.
“Overall, the new terminal building will revolutionize civil aviation in Jammu. The structural components and the elevated road are complete, and work on the new terminal is ongoing at an accelerated pace. We anticipate completion by November or December of next year,” the director stated.
