Maya Rudolph Turns 54—Here Are 6 of Her Best Looks Worth Celebrating

Maya Rudolph has spent over two decades making people feel a little lighter. From her seven seasons on Saturday Night Live to her scene-stealing role in Bridesmaids, she’s built a career on the kind of comedy that feels warm rather than mean. She’s the rare performer people describe as a “comfort watch,” someone whose impressions and characters have become genuinely beloved.

July 27 is her 54th birthday, and to celebrate her, we’ve rounded up some of her best looks. Because if there’s one thing Rudolph doesn’t do, it’s play it safe. She’s not a minimalist, and she’s not trying to be. Give her a caftan, a ruffle or a full-on gingham print, and she’ll make it work, usually with a color bold enough to spot from across the room. Rudolph treats getting dressed like another chance to be a little fun, a little dramatic and completely herself, and while making us laugh will always be her greatest gift, her fashion sense deserves its own spotlight too.

Rudolph closed out the 2019 Oscar weekend in a ruffled one-shoulder gown in a bold shade of magenta, complete with an oversized bow at the waist. It’s one of her earliest red carpet moments on this list, and it already had all the makings of her signature style: a statement color, a dramatic silhouette and not a hint of hesitation.
