During the airport event, the Prime Minister will unveil an 80-feet statue of Assam’s first chief minister, Gopinath Bardoloi, situated outside the new terminal building in Guwahati. This statue was crafted by renowned artist Ram Sutar, who passed away on December 17 at the age of 101.
Sutar previously created the 125-feet statue of Ahom general Lachit Barphukan in Jorhat, commemorating his significant victory against Mughal forces. That monument was inaugurated by Modi in March 2024.
Following the unveiling, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the ₹4,000-crore airport terminal, spending approximately 15 minutes at the site. He will then address a public gathering near the terminal complex on Saturday.

From the airport, Modi will lead a roadshow to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state headquarters in the Basistha area, where he will engage with party workers. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma characterized the visit as groundbreaking, stating it is the first time a Prime Minister has visited a BJP office in Assam and referred to it as a “historic occasion.”
A party official noted that this interaction with the workers holds added relevance with assembly elections approaching in the state early next year.
The Prime Minister will spend the night at the state guest house in Koinadhora, located in the Khanapara area of Guwahati.

On Sunday, Modi will kick off the day by meeting 25 meritorious students from various schools as part of the ‘Pariksha pe Charcha’ initiative. This session, lasting about half an hour, will take place aboard the cruise vessel ‘Charaideo’ while it sails on the Brahmaputra.
He will then head to the newly established ‘Swahid Smarak Kshetra’, a memorial honoring the 860 individuals who lost their lives during the Assam Movement that started in 1979. The Prime Minister will pay respects at the site, visit the martyrs’ gallery, and garland the statue of the first martyr, Khargeswar Talukdar.
Subsequently, Modi will proceed to Dibrugarh and Namrup to take part in the ‘Bhumi pujan’ ceremony for the ₹12,000-crore ammonia-urea fertiliser plant. Officials have indicated that this project is expected to significantly boost the state’s growth and development.
He will also address a public gathering at Namrup before returning to New Delhi. Welcoming the Prime Minister, Sarma posted on social media platform X: “A warm welcome to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji to the land of Maa Kamakhya and Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev.”
He added, “During Saturday and Sunday, Adarniya Modi ji will usher in mega development initiatives for Assam and pay tributes to our brave martyrs.”
