Indian Railways has introduced weekly summer special trains to accommodate the significant increase in passenger numbers and to facilitate long-distance travel during this season. The new service will link Ernakulam Junction in Kerala with Muzaffarpur Junction in Bihar, traversing major cities such as Chennai and Coimbatore.

Train No. 06085 is set to depart from Ernakulam Junction at 9:30 pm on April 10, 17, and 24, arriving at Muzaffarpur Junction at 7:30 am on Mondays. For the return trip, Train No. 06086 will leave Muzaffarpur at 9:15 pm on April 13, 20, and 27, returning to Ernakulam at 10:45 am on Thursdays.

Key stations
The route has been designed to encompass a broad area, providing more passengers the opportunity to travel during the bustling holiday season. Important stops along this journey include Aluva, Thrissur, Palakkad, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Katpadi, Perambur in Chennai, Gudur, Nellore, Ongole, Vijayawada, and Rajahmundry.

In addition, stations close to Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Kharagpur, Asansol, Patna, and Hajipur will also be included. This ensures enhanced connectivity across states without solely relying on regular trains.

The

Railways’ decision comes amid the peak travel season marked by summer vacations. By introducing these weekly specials, Railways aims to alleviate congestion and provide passengers with more flexible travel options.

Changes in train timings

At the same time, travelers passing through Chennai should be aware of several temporary changes. Ongoing upgrade work at Egmore railway station, particularly on platforms 10 and 11, has resulted in adjustments to the departure points for certain trains.

The Podhigai Express to Sengottai will operate from Tambaram railway station between April 7 and April 22, with a departure time of 8:05 pm. The Charminar Express to Hyderabad will now commence from Chennai Beach railway station starting April 6 at 6:20 pm.

Passengers are encouraged to verify their train details before setting off on their journeys. Allowing some extra time can help prevent last-minute complications.

Meanwhile, Railways has indicated that these short-term adjustments are part of a broader initiative to enhance station facilities and efficiently handle a greater number of passengers in the future.
