Sikkim Sees More Than 1.7 Million Tourists in 2025 Sikkim Sees More Than 1.7 Million Tourists in 2025
Sikkim saw over 17 lakh tourist arrivals in 2025, a rise of more than 82,000 compared to the previous year; however, the number of foreign visitors experienced a significant decline, an official reported on Wednesday.

In 2024, the state recorded 15,40,421 domestic tourist arrivals, which increased to 16,35,650 last year.

The number of foreign tourists fell to 71,710 in 2025 from 84,710 the year before.
Tourism Department Additional Chief Secretary CS Rao mentioned that initiatives are being taken to attract more foreign visitors and enhance sustainable and responsible tourism practices in the state.

He noted that the decline in foreign tourist arrivals was largely due to extensive road damage in October, especially along NH-10, which negatively impacted the travel plans of visitors.

Rao further commented that if the road conditions across the state, including NH-10, continue to improve and stabilize, Sikkim could see nearly 20 lakh tourist arrivals this year.

He also pointed out that the increase in domestic tourist numbers can be linked to the rising popularity of the Himalayan state among visitors.
