Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the last 76-kilometre section of the ambitious Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway on June 5. This final part connects Igatpuri (Nashik) to Amane in Thane. Anil Gaikwad, Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), confirmed that this segment will open for traffic on the same day.

Reduces Mumbai-Nagpur travel time by 50%: The newly constructed section, officially called the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, was built at an estimated cost of ₹1,182 crore, according to Moneycontrol. This segment includes three key interchanges at Igatpuri, Kutghar (Shahpur), and Amane. Jointly financed by MSRDC and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), it also incorporates India’s longest road tunnel — a 7.8-km passage through the Kasara Ghat area.

The final segment provides significant improvements over the previous Mumbai-Nashik route, where drivers navigated steep ascents of 450 metres on winding roads. The Samruddhi Motorway has reduced the height to 160 meters, cutting travel time between Igatpuri and Amane from 90 minutes to about 40 minutes. (Image X)

With all sections of the Samruddhi Motorway active, the travel duration between Mumbai and Nagpur will decrease from 16 hours to just eight hours, marking it as India’s fastest motorway. The ₹55,000-crore greenfield project spans across 10 districts and 390 villages, achieving speeds of up to 150 km/h. (Image PTI) Below are key features of the Samruddhi Expressway.
