Saxena noted that this initiative, introduced by the Delhi Development Authority, is a pivotal move towards transforming Delhi into a lively city, equipped with improved recreational facilities and world-class infrastructure.
The rides will commence for Delhi residents at Baansera starting Saturday. Future expansions include Asita, Yamuna Sports Complex, and CWG Village Sports Complex.
The hot air balloons will be tethered to provide secure and safe panoramic views of the riverfront and the city skyline.
Each balloon ride is expected to cost ₹ 3,000, plus taxes, per person for a 15-20 minute aerial journey. The operator plans to offer two flights daily, one in the morning and another in the evening, contingent on weather conditions. Each basket will accommodate about four people during each trip.
The DDA has engaged a certified operator with a background in ballooning and related recreational services. This team will oversee launch procedures, piloting, and safety inspections before every ascent.
DDA officials state that this venture aligns with a broader initiative to revitalize the Yamuna riverfront, promoting ecotourism and enticing more visitors to its redeveloped riverfront parks.
The DDA has previously introduced cycling paths, nature trails, and boating services in various spots of the floodplain, and the addition of balloon rides is set to enhance the area’s visibility as a tourist attraction.
Baansera Park, sprawling over 10 hectares, is a bamboo-themed area established ahead of the G-20 Summit. It showcases bamboo varieties from across India, including Assam, and is divided into two sections: the Bamboo Recreation Area and the Bamboo Plantation Area.
Delhi’s hot air balloon ride adventure is set to commence on November 29 at Baansera Park, Sarai Kale Khan, providing stunning views of Akshardham Temple, Signature Bridge, and the banks of the Yamuna. The rides operate daily from 6 am to 6 pm, weather permitting, taking passengers up to 120 feet for a duration of 15-20 minutes, priced at ₹ 3,000 per person.
The launch is expected to draw significant public interest as Delhi embarks on this new adventure tourism experience for the first time.
