It was previously reported that the same five flights were diverted to Thiruvananthapuram due to a cyclone warning impacting Colombo on Friday.

TIAL mentioned that additional flights may also be redirected to Thiruvananthapuram in light of the adverse weather conditions.

The fifth flight was an Indigo service traveling from Mumbai to Colombo. As of noon IST, the flights that landed at the Thiruvananthapuram airport this morning have not yet resumed departure due to ongoing severe weather.

In the meantime, the cyclone that affected Sri Lanka has resulted in 46 fatalities, with 23 individuals reported missing, as the weather department cautioned that the storm could strengthen as it progresses across the island in the next 12 hours.

The majority of the fatalities were linked to landslides caused by heavy rainfall exceeding 300 mm (11.8 inches) within the past 24 hours as Cyclone Ditwah impacted the island nation, particularly affecting the eastern and central regions.

Across the country, 43,991 people were relocated to schools and other public shelters, according to a statement from the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), including families trapped on rooftops.

Schools were closed, train services were halted, and the Colombo Stock Exchange implemented an early trading stop due to the relentless heavy rains.
