He credited this optimistic forecast to the strengthening economy, higher disposable incomes, a growing middle class, and significant infrastructure enhancements, while participating in a panel discussion at FICCI AGM 2025, hosted by CNBC-TV18’s Shereen Bhan. “I am confident that tourism in India will grow by more than 20% CAGR annually,” he noted, adding that initiatives like income tax exemption up to ₹12 lakh have further stimulated travel demand. “As the economy expands, the Indian middle class has grown, which has benefitted the tourism sector. Income tax exemption up to ₹12 lakh for individuals has supported this growth,” he elaborated.
The Minister praised Ahmedabad for securing the 2030 Commonwealth Games, stating that the event would boost the state’s tourism profile and create lasting momentum.
“With this major event, I believe India’s tourism potential will increase not only until 2030 but beyond. This will create a multiplier effect. In tourism, there are no individual initiatives; the government’s actions ultimately benefit people, enhance the economy, and increase disposable income, which together act as a booster for our tourism sector,” the Tourism Minister remarked.
“Infrastructure status has been granted to 50 destinations… Essentially, infrastructure status has been established across the country,” he stated. Earlier, he urged for ambitious private investments to propel the next growth phase, emphasizing its importance.
“India requires bold private investment to innovate hospitality models, create unique experiential tourism products, set global standards for service excellence, and foster strong community connections. The government has paved the way; now it is the industry’s opportunity to lead, shape, and elevate India’s tourism brand on the global stage,” the Minister concluded.
