Expanded Ladakh B-3 Helicopter Services to Enhance Connectivity, Tourism, and Emergency Assistance in Isolated Regions Expanded Ladakh B-3 Helicopter Services to Enhance Connectivity, Tourism, and Emergency Assistance in Isolated Regions
Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta inaugurated the newly expanded B-3 helicopter services on Friday to enhance connectivity, promote tourism, and strengthen emergency support in remote regions of the Union Territory.

Highlighting Ladakh’s vast geographical expanse, challenging terrain, and extreme weather conditions, Gupta emphasized that improved air connectivity is essential for many residents, not merely a luxury.

The newly adjusted subsidized fares and expanded routes—including Leh–Kargil, Leh–Padum, Leh–Lingshad, Leh–Dibling, Leh–Nyerak, Leh–Diskit, and Leh–Turtuk—will provide faster and more cost-effective travel options for both locals and tourists, as per officials.

The LG mentioned that these upgraded services would act as a critical support system during medical emergencies, particularly in winter when many roads are closed due to heavy snowfall. The helicopter network will aid in the timely evacuation of patients, transportation of essential supplies, and enhanced access to administrative services in remote villages, he added.

Referencing the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gupta stated that the government is devoted to accelerating development in border areas through enhanced connectivity, improved infrastructure, and expanded opportunities for youth and local communities.

He indicated that the helicopter services are set to significantly enhance Ladakh’s tourism potential by improving access to remote locations celebrated for their natural beauty and cultural heritage.

LG Gupta commended the civil aviation authorities, district administration, and various stakeholders for bringing this initiative to fruition, noting that better aviation infrastructure would contribute to economic growth, create jobs, and ensure improved integration of remote areas with district headquarters.

Chief Secretary Pawan Kotwal mentioned the increasing demand for reliable helicopter services from residents of Zanskar and Singge-Lalok, especially during winter when road connections are often disrupted. He informed that citizens can access these services through an online booking system.

Recently, Gupta pointed out that new infrastructure projects completed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in Ladakh underscore the central government’s dedication to the progress of the Union Territory. He made these remarks during the inauguration of 125 BRO infrastructure projects, which include the Shayok tunnel on the Darbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldie Road in Ladakh, inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Spanning two Union Territories, Ladakh and Jammu-Kashmir, as well as seven states—including Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Mizoram—these projects encompass 28 roads, 93 bridges, and four miscellaneous constructions, completed at an approximate cost of Rs 5,000 crore, marking the highest-value inaugurations in BRO’s history.
