Dense fog and limited visibility have severely impacted flight operations across various regions in North India, resulting in airlines issuing travel advisories. Multiple carriers, including SpiceJet, Air India, and IndiGo, have encouraged passengers to verify their flight statuses beforehand.

On their official X handle, IndiGo Airlines has released a travel advisory due to reduced visibility and fog affecting Ranchi, Patna, and Varanasi, which may disrupt flight schedules. Passengers are advised to stay informed about their flight status via the IndiGo website or app.

“Limited visibility and fog over #Ranchi, #Patna, and #Varanasi could affect flight schedules. We are diligently monitoring the weather to ensure you reach your destinations safely and efficiently. We hope for clearer skies and a prompt return to our normal schedule. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” the advisory stated.

Additionally, the airline has issued a notice regarding operational disruptions in Chandigarh due to dense fog and low visibility. Passengers are encouraged to check their latest flight statuses on the IndiGo website or app and to allow for extra travel time. Refunds or rebooking can be processed online if a flight is canceled.

“Due to dense fog in #Chandigarh, visibility has dropped significantly, affecting flight operations. To prioritize safety, some flights have been canceled throughout the day to minimize extended waiting periods at the airport,” IndiGo remarked.

In a post on X, SpiceJet’s official account informed passengers that all departures, arrivals, and subsequent flights may be affected by the dense fog in Delhi. The airline also suggested that passengers verify their flight status through the official website.

“Due to adverse weather (dense fog) in Delhi (DEL), all departures, arrivals, and their corresponding flights may be impacted. Passengers are advised to check their flight status via the airline’s account on X.

Air India has also released a notice regarding possible flight disruptions due to dense fog in Delhi and parts of northern and eastern India. Passengers are urged to verify their flight status before arriving at the airport, particularly during the holiday season. The airline is implementing measures to reduce disruptions and provides assistance through its ‘FogCare’ initiative, allowing passengers to reschedule flights or request refunds without additional fees.

“In the coming days, dense fog and poor visibility could affect flight operations at our main hub in Delhi and several airports in northern and eastern India, with cascading effects on other cities within our network. We kindly ask for your understanding and support to enhance your travel experience. The safety and well-being of our guests and crew remain our highest priority,” they stated.

Flight disruptions have become common in recent days, as images over the national capital displayed a thick layer of toxic smog, severely reducing visibility. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)’s Sameer app, Delhi’s AQI was recorded at 358, placing it in the ‘very poor’ category as of 9 am on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has forecasted shallow to moderate fog during the mornings of December 18 and 19. They also indicated that moderate to dense fog is expected in isolated spots during the morning hours of December 21 and 22 in the national capital.
