The Chicago-based airline has unveiled a new concept called ‘Relax Row,’ enabling passengers to reserve three adjacent economy seats featuring adjustable leg rests. These leg rests can be raised or lowered to establish a comfortable lie-flat area for relaxation.

“Customers flying in United Economy on long-haul journeys deserve a more spacious and comfortable option, and this is one method we can provide that,” noted Andrew Nocella, United’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer.
The Relax Row essentially consists of a standard trio of economy seats enhanced with thoughtful upgrades. Each seat includes a leg rest that can elevate to a 90-degree angle. When all three leg rests are raised, the seats transform into a flat, bed-like surface.
Additionally, passengers will receive a mattress pad, blanket, and two pillows. For families traveling with children, United Airlines will also include a plush toy along with a children’s travel kit.
The feedback from users has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing that this could significantly improve comfort on long flights.
“Much needed. United is innovating faster than anyone,” wrote one user.
Another user commented, “Brilliant! You have captured my loyalty for years, but with this, I’m now doubly committed. This is incredibly advantageous, particularly on those overnight European routes.”
One person expressed their appreciation, saying, “This is a brilliant and considerate idea to enhance customer comfort. Well done!”
“I’ve been utilizing extra seats for a long time when traveling with my triplets, thrilled to see the addition of the adjustable feature,” noted another.
However, some users raised concerns regarding the pricing, suggesting that reserving three seats might cost as much as, or even more than, a business or first-class ticket.
One user asked, “While I love the idea, I’m quite worried about the potential cost. Would it be more economical to opt for business or first class?”
An additional user inquired, “Does this mean you have to buy a ticket for three economy seats?”
When users questioned whether pets could be accommodated or how to reserve the entire row, United Airlines stated that specific details are still forthcoming.
“Currently, we lack information on booking options. When these launch in 2027, we’ll provide more specifics and communicate them to our customers,” the airline mentioned.
United Airlines has announced that the Relax Row will begin to roll out next year on over 200 of its Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft. Each plane will feature up to 12 of these specially designed rows.
