The services are set to be open for public use on Wednesday.

Addressing the media, Fadnavis remarked that a more efficient and accessible transport system is being established in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, integrating metro services, e-buses, and water transport to enhance the city’s accessibility.
The MMR is developing a metro network along with a bus system focused predominantly on e-buses and alternative-fuel vehicles, while significant water transport initiatives are also progressing in the third phase, he noted.
The chief minister pointed out that Mumbai is now the second in India after Delhi, boasting over 100 km of operational metro lines, and mentioned that the majority of metro projects are expected to be completed within the next two years, aiming for a broader network than the national capital in the next three to four years.
With the initiation of the first phase of Metro Line 9, Mumbai now has five operational metro corridors. These include Metro Line 1 on the Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova route, Line 2A from Andheri West to Dahisar East, Line 7 connecting Dahisar East and Andheri East, and Line 3, known as the Aqua Line, which links Colaba in south Mumbai with Bandra Kurla Complex and SEEPZ.
The first phase of Metro Line 9 features a 5.6-km elevated stretch containing four stations: Dahisar East, Pandurangwadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon.
The chief minister also stated that nearly 96% of the work on the second phase, spanning from Sai Baba Nagar to Subhash Chandra Bose Maidan in Mira-Bhayandar, has been completed, with the 4.3-km stretch and additional four stations expected to be inaugurated later this year.
“This metro will reduce travel time significantly, allowing journeys that currently take one to two hours to be completed in about 30 minutes,” he added, noting that the project has been executed at a cost of Rs 6,607 crore.
Fadnavis highlighted that this line will provide seamless connectivity between Mira-Bhayandar and Colaba through interconnections with Metro Line 7, and eventually with Lines 7A and 3.
Innovative features such as rainwater harvesting, LED lighting, regenerative braking, and solar panels contribute to the metro line’s environmental sustainability, he mentioned.
The chief minister noted the success of the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), stating that 80% of passengers opted for cashless ticketing, while just 20% paid in cash.
In response to a question regarding a four-lane bridge narrowing to two lanes in Mira-Bhayandar, Fadnavis explained that the structure has been constructed in a congested area and is in a partially completed state.
“Photographs were taken when it was only partially finished, leading to criticism, which resulted in officials contemplating its demolition,” he said, reassuring that it will not be perceived as accident-prone upon completion.
A release mentioned that the integrated Metro Lines 7-9 corridor (Gundavali-Kashigaon), stretching 19.79 km, will operate daily from 5:50 am to 11 pm, with peak frequencies below six minutes.
On weekdays, 276 services will run, while there will be 223 on Saturdays and 205 on Sundays, as stated.
With the rollout of Metro Line 9, Lines 2A and 7 will function as independent corridors, having previously operated as a single stretch from Andheri East to Andheri West via Dahisar East.
Line 7 will be integrated with Line 9, allowing direct connectivity from Andheri East to Mira-Bhayandar via Kashigaon. An interchange facility at Dahisar station will facilitate seamless transfers without exiting the paid area.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has adjusted the timetable for Lines 2A and 7 to enhance frequency and network integration, with the new schedule taking effect from Wednesday.
According to MMRDA, the newly opened section of Line 9 will ensure seamless connectivity with the existing metro network, bridging commuters to Line 7 and subsequently to Line 7A, which provides access to Andheri (East) and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
