Holi stands out as one of the most active travel periods on the Indian Railways calendar, particularly for the Moradabad division. In response, the Moradabad Railway Division has introduced 62 special trains to accommodate the seasonal surge in travel across North India.

The additional services will commence in the last week of February and continue until the end of March, facilitating both the outgoing festival movement and the return journey.

This decision was made well in advance to relieve pressure prior to peak travel dates.

Aditya Gupta, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, confirmed that 31 pairs—totaling 62 trains—have been organized for the Holi festival period.

“Given the anticipated increase in crowds for Holi, the Moradabad Railway Division has initiated 62 Holi special trains, operational until the end of March,” Gupta stated to ANI. He mentioned that these services connect Delhi to Gorakhpur, Bihar, and Howrah, serving major stations such as Saharanpur, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Moradabad, and Bareilly.

While it may be a slight margin, Gupta described it as a relief measure during a time when both fares and demand typically increase. He also mentioned that additional trains could be introduced if necessary.

Routes covered: Delhi, Gorakhpur, Bihar and Howrah corridors

The special trains will stop at significant stations within the division, including Moradabad, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Haridwar, and Yoganagari Rishikesh.

According to railway officials, movement patterns indicate a strong passenger flow in various directions during Holi:

Eastward: Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Howrah

Westward: Sabarmati and Ahmedabad

Southward: Yeshwantpur in Bengaluru

Regular traffic toward Delhi and Punjab

“Key stations like Rishikesh, Dehradun, Haridwar, Moradabad, and Bareilly experience heavy traffic,” Gupta said, adding that the eastern corridors toward Muzaffarpur and Howrah see considerable crowding each year.

Festival travel pressure

Passenger movement from Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh toward eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar generally peaks over a brief period.

The Moradabad division manages a substantial volume of traffic during festival times. Gupta emphasized that booking trends are being closely observed, and if demand continues to rise leading up to March 4, additional services may be introduced.

For the time being, passengers are encouraged to verify availability early and plan their trips accordingly.
