How Experience-Focused Travel is Influencing Summer Booking Patterns

Women’s Bus Travel Surges by 136% Over Seven Years, Driven by Young Women Embracing Solo Journeys Women’s Bus Travel Surges by 136% Over Seven Years, Driven by Young Women Embracing Solo Journeys
This year’s summer travel trends are characterized by shortened booking periods, experience-driven choices, and an emphasis on domestic and family-focused trips, as noted by industry experts.

Gautam Munjal, Founder of Minimalist Hotels, remarked that travellers are making swift decisions while seeking more tailored experiences.

“We are noticing a transition from booking based on rooms to experience-based stays, where guests select properties based on activities available rather than just location,” he stated, highlighting that curated culinary experiences, social settings, and community engagement are becoming more popular than traditional luxury extras.
This change reflects a broader evolution in booking behavior.

Vidya Sagar, General Manager of Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, observed that booking timelines are shortening as travellers seek flexibility in an uncertain landscape. Demand remains high, particularly among families looking for privacy, spacious accommodations, and seamless experiences. Stays in villas and family-oriented travel options are rising in popularity, showcasing a desire for comfort and exclusivity.

Industry experts are also pointing toward an increasing preference for domestic travel.

Alka Ladhani, Executive Director at Sincere Developers – Taj Agra, mentioned that geopolitical factors and better connectivity are prompting more travellers to discover destinations within India. This trend has bolstered both individual travel and group activities like meetings and events, especially in well-connected areas.

Across the board, experiences are becoming the key factor in decision-making.

Jose Ramapuram, Executive Director – Marketing at Evolve Back Resorts, referenced travel trend data revealing that a growing number of Indian travellers are planning journeys centered around personal interests such as wellness, culture, and nature. He noted that while the comfort of rooms remains significant, travellers now assess properties based on the experiences they offer.

This inclination is also seen in the rising demand for specific activities. Wellness-oriented offerings—such as yoga, meditation, and holistic therapies—are becoming more sought after, in conjunction with immersive cultural experiences like local cuisine, heritage visits, and community involvement. Coastal and nature-based pursuits, including curated excursions and private tours, are also attracting considerable interest.

Ibrahim Musan, Cluster Yield & Revenue Manager at JOALI Maldives and JOALI BEING, shared that shorter booking cycles are particularly evident among travellers from India and neighboring regions. However, he emphasized that “the desire for the right experience is robust,” with guests favoring packaged, experience-oriented options over mere room upgrades.

Another emerging trend is intentional travel. Travellers increasingly seek meaningful and personalized journeys—prioritizing relaxation, connection, and enrichment rather than just transactional stays.

This shift has generated a heightened demand for prolonged stays in certain segments, especially in locations offering integrated experiences that encompass accommodation, activities, and wellness.
