The Dehradun police have put in place a detailed traffic diversion and parking management strategy for Saturday and Sunday to handle the surge of tourists heading to Mussoorie, Chakrata, and Rishikesh, according to officials.

As per traffic police officials, vehicles traveling to Mussoorie from Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh via the Datkali expressway will adhere to a specified route through the ISBT, Shimla Bypass, Balliwala flyover, Ballupur, and Kuthal Gate.

In the event of increased traffic congestion, vehicles will be redirected from the Transport Nagar tri-junction via Laxmi Dharmkanta, Kimadi, and Hathipaon to reach Mussoorie.
For traffic bound for Chakrata from the expressway, the route will be through GMS Road, St Jude Chowk, Naya Gaon, and the New Dehradun Paonta flyover via Langha Road. Alternatively, commuters can take the route from Premnagar through Ballupur Chowk, Kaulagarh, Kimadi, and Hathipaon to Mussoorie.

For the return journey, vehicles leaving Mussoorie towards Himachal Pradesh will be directed via the old Rajpur Road, Sai Mandir diversion, and the CSD tri-junction. Those going to Asharori will travel through Dilaram, EC Road, and the Rispana bridge, while vehicles bound for Rishikesh will take the route via Kirshali Chowk, Maldevta, and Thano Road, as per officials.

Vehicles commuting from Rishikesh to Mussoorie will follow the route through the Airport tri-junction, Thano Road, Ladpur, Sahastradhara crossing, IT Park, and Kuthal Gate. Traffic from Doiwala will navigate via the Mokhampur flyover and execute a U-turn from Kailash Hospital towards Jogiwala to connect with the same route.

Officials indicated that if traffic conditions worsen, alternative routes through Nathuawala or the Nepali Farm tri-junction will be activated. Vehicles from Herbertpur and Vikasnagar will be redirected via Badwala, Yamuna Bridge, and Kempty Fall. The return trip to Rishikesh and Haridwar from Mussoorie will utilize the old Rajpur Road, Kirshali Chowk, Maldevta, and Thano Road.

In Dehradun city, local traffic diversions will be implemented near key commercial centers.

In Mussoorie, vehicles will initially proceed as usual from King Craig towards Library and Picture Palace. Once the parking capacity of the town reaches 90 percent, vehicles will be halted at the King Craig parking lot, and tourists will be required to use local taxi services.

If the King Craig lot reaches capacity, traffic will be diverted from Gajji Band via Hathipaon Road towards Zero Point, where parking will be in designated roadside areas.

For Rishikesh, a three-tier traffic management plan has been established. Under Plan A, for low traffic volume, vehicles from the Haridwar national highway and Dehradun will proceed through Nepali Farm, Shyampur, Natraj Chowk, Bhadrakali, and the bypass road towards Tapovan and Shivpuri. Plan B will reroute traffic through Lal Tappar and Ranipokhari during higher congestion periods.

Plan C, for extreme traffic pressure, will divert vehicles through Narendranagar and Plasda chowki. After the weekend, tourists returning towards Haridwar will be directed via Garud Chatti, the Pashulok barrage, and Chila. Those traveling to Rishikesh or Dehradun will go via Tapovan, Bhadrakali, and Natraj Chowk.

Officials stated that heavy vehicles will be restricted at Nepali Farm during peak hours and will only be allowed to enter Rishikesh after night no-entry hours begin. The route from Muni Ki Reti towards Haridwar will be one-way towards Shyampur. The section between Chandrabhaga bridge and Jairam Ashram tri-junction has been declared a no-go zone for auto-rickshaws and Vikram tempos, with no passenger boarding permitted.

Large tourist buses will park at Dhalwala and the ISBT lot, with passengers transferring to smaller vehicles. Uttarakhand Roadways buses will strictly operate via the Shyampur tri-junction and bypass road.

Designated parking areas have been established across four regions, officials confirmed. In Dehradun, available spaces include Rangers Ground, Parade Ground, the Old Roadways bus stand, Kabul House, Kanak Chowk multilevel parking, and the MDDA parking near Ghantaghar.

Mussoorie parking facilities include Picture Palace, Landour Road, Kempty taxi stand, King Craig, and hotel parking areas. Rishikesh parking will be available at the Transit Camp, Bharat Inter College, near the IDPL post office, Kalikamli Ashram, and Nirmal Dharmshala. In Vikasnagar, parking options include the Badwala mela ground, Herbertpur bus stand, and spaces adjacent to the Nayan Gaon police chowki.

Emergency and essential service vehicles, including ambulances, fire tenders, and supply trucks for fuel and milk, will not be impeded or redirected. Vehicles parked in no-parking zones will be towed, and owners may face legal consequences, officials warned.

Commuters have been urged to limit unnecessary honking, adhere to instructions from traffic police, and stay updated with official announcements, officials added.
