As per information from the state government, the revised advisory was shared by the EU Ambassador with the Assam Chief Secretary and became effective on Friday.
Citizens from all 27 EU member nations can now travel to most areas of Assam without any restrictions. However, the advisory still applies to three districts—Charaideo, Tinsukia, and Sivasagar—where the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) is still applicable.
The Chief Minister mentioned that this development is a result of discussions between the Assam government and international diplomatic missions following the Advantage Assam 2.0 investment summit held in 2025.
He noted that this change is anticipated to enhance tourism, trade activities, and exchanges between Assam and Europe. Sarma also stated that the state government will concentrate on improving tourism infrastructure, which includes homestays, eco-tourism facilities, and digital services for visitors.
