The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has commenced construction at Central Secretariat Metro Station as part of the Central Vista Corridor initiative.

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal, was present at the construction launch. Katikithala Srinivas, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Chairman of DMRC, along with senior officials, also attended the event.

This project is being developed under Phase V(A) of the Delhi Metro network and is set to extend the existing Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg.
The 9.9-km underground corridor will feature nine stations: Shivaji Stadium, Yuge Yugeen Bharat, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial-High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam, and Indraprastha.
Upon completion, Central Secretariat will serve as a triple interchange station, enabling passengers to switch between the Magenta, Yellow, and Violet lines. This new interchange is anticipated to enhance connectivity for those accessing the Lutyens’ Zone and nearby administrative districts.

According to DMRC, the corridor will facilitate easier access to major government offices, courts, national memorials, and convention centers. It is also expected to boost overall connectivity in central Delhi, making travel more convenient for passengers.

“This project represents a crucial advancement in enhancing connectivity to the heart of New Delhi, providing efficient access to major government offices, judicial institutions, national memorials, and convention facilities while improving overall network efficiency and passenger convenience,” the DMRC stated on X.

This section is one of three new routes being constructed as part of Delhi Metro’s Phase-V(A) expansion plan. Together, these corridors will span 16.07 kilometers and are projected to cost around ₹12,000 crore. The Central Government granted approval for the project in December 2025.

With the addition of the Magenta Line, Central Secretariat is set to become a key metro interchange hub in Delhi. The government estimates the corridor will assist approximately 60,000 employees working in these offices and nearly 2 lakh visitors arriving in the area daily.

Once this new Central Vista segment is finalized, the Magenta Line will claim the title of the longest line in the Delhi Metro network, increasing its total length to 88.4 km, surpassing the Pink Line, which is currently the longest at over 71.5 km with 46 stations.
