American Express Launches Lounge in Delhi: Exploring How Credit Card Companies are Enhancing Travel Perks American Express Launches Lounge in Delhi: Exploring How Credit Card Companies are Enhancing Travel Perks
American Express has launched a Centurion Lounge at Terminal 1 of Indira Gandhi International Airport, reflecting a wider trend among credit card companies to enhance airport lounge access and travel-related perks.

The lounge is a part of the company’s Global Centurion Lounge Collection and will be available to qualifying cardholders, in accordance with access policies and capacity restrictions. It features standard amenities such as seating areas, dining options, workspaces, and other conveniences for travelers.

This development illustrates how credit card providers are integrating airport lounge access into their offerings, particularly for premium cardholders.
Providers usually grant access either through their own lounge networks or alliances with third-party operators, with eligibility depending on card classification or spending requirements. American Express noted that its extensive lounge program allows access to over 1,550 lounges worldwide, including more than 30 Centurion Lounge locations.

Lounge access as a card feature

Throughout the industry, lounge access has emerged as a popular card feature, alongside other travel-related services such as insurance and concierge support. In India, issuers have broadened lounge partnerships at major airports in response to the growing demand for air travel.

Simultaneously, some issuers have updated access rules in recent years, including limiting complimentary visits or setting minimum spending requirements, citing factors like lounge capacity.

Link to travel demand

The growth of lounge access coincides with the ongoing rise in air passenger traffic in India. As airports increase their capacity and passenger numbers rise, financial service providers are adapting card features to fit current travel trends.
