Summer Travel Trends: Understanding Demand's Impact on Spending and Planning Tips Summer Travel Trends: Understanding Demand's Impact on Spending and Planning Tips
As the summer travel season approaches, India’s hospitality industry is gearing up for a significant rise in demand for leisure, family vacations, and workcations, reflecting a shift in consumer spending from price-focused choices to experience-oriented stays.

Travel operators anticipate high occupancy rates across various regions this season, which will likely lessen reliance on discounts and heighten emphasis on quality service, wellness offerings, and extended stay formats.

Travel demand evolving towards longer, experience-led stays
Ramit Sethi, Founder of Seclude Hotels, noted that travelers are increasingly opting for slower, more immersive vacations instead of quick getaways.

“As we enter the peak summer season, our aim isn’t solely to boost demand but to attract the right kind of clientele,” Sethi remarked.

He pointed out that travelers are now prioritizing what he terms “emotional luxury.”

“There’s a noticeable shift toward longer, more immersive experiences and a growing preference for ‘do nothing’ holidays,” he added.

Sethi also mentioned that this trend is facilitating multi-generational travel and workcations, where connectivity and adaptable spaces are vital alongside leisure activities.

Value perception shifting beyond mere pricing

Hotel operators assert that the notion of value-for-money is evolving, with expenditures increasingly determined by experience, space, and overall quality of stay rather than discounts.

Experts suggest that guests today value how a place resonates with them over its listed features.

High occupancy boosts expectations, curtails discounting

Tarun Gulati, Director of Ganga Kinare Resorts & Hotels, anticipates robust demand this summer, minimizing the necessity for aggressive promotional pricing.

“Rooms typically sell out during this period,” Gulati remarked, noting that the primary focus must be on ensuring service standards align with elevated expectations during peak occupancy.

He emphasized that a key priority this season is training and upskilling local staff to maintain a consistent level of hospitality under increased demand.

Wellness, heritage, and regional travel on the rise

Michael Dominic, CEO of CGH Earth, indicated that leisure travel remains paramount, especially family vacations centered on nature, culture, and wellness.

He emphasized the growing popularity of Ayurveda, heritage accommodations, and nature-driven properties, with guests increasingly valuing authenticity in their travel experiences.

“While value is still significant, it is the depth and genuineness of the experience that is increasingly influencing guest decisions,” he noted.

Extended stays in hill regions

Sumit Mitruka, Founder and CEO of Summit Hotels & Resorts, stated that travelers in areas like Sikkim and Darjeeling are opting for longer stays and flexible itineraries.

He mentioned that while corporate travel remains steady, leisure demand is notably stronger this season, with travelers balancing affordability with local experience-driven travel.

Advice for travelers

With hotels expecting high occupancy rates, industry trends suggest that travelers may gain less from last-minute discounts and more from early planning and adaptable itineraries.

Longer stays, off-peak travel periods, and destinations that offer integrated experiences like wellness, nature, and cultural immersion are emerging as more efficient ways to optimize travel budgets.
