US-Israel Conflict with Iran: Akasa Air to Implement Fuel Surcharge Starting March 15 Due to Increasing ATF Costs

US-Israel Conflict with Iran: Akasa Air to Implement Fuel Surcharge Starting March 15 Due to Increasing ATF Costs US-Israel Conflict with Iran: Akasa Air to Implement Fuel Surcharge Starting March 15 Due to Increasing ATF Costs
Budget airline Akasa Air has implemented a fuel surcharge on both domestic and international flights, attributing this decision to a steep increase in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in parts of the Middle East.

The surcharge goes into effect for all bookings made from March 15.

According to the airline, this additional fee will range from ₹199 to ₹1,300 per sector, based on flight duration.
This surcharge is applicable only to reservations made on or after the specified date and will not influence tickets bought before 00:01 hrs on March 15.

An Akasa Air spokesperson mentioned that aviation turbine fuel prices have surged significantly due to the evolving geopolitical landscape in the region.

Given that fuel comprises a major portion of airline operational costs, this rise has affected expenses throughout the aviation sector.

“There has been a notable rise in aviation turbine fuel prices, spurred by ongoing geopolitical developments in the Middle East. Since fuel constitutes a significant segment of airline operational costs, this affects overall operational expenses within the industry. The fuel surcharge will vary based on the duration of the flight and will be applied per sector,” the spokesperson stated.

Notwithstanding this adjustment, the airline affirmed its commitment to delivering dependable operations, competitive fares, and efficient customer service.

The carrier will also monitor the operating environment closely and may review the fuel surcharge periodically.

Akasa Air joins other Indian carriers in passing on rising fuel costs to passengers, with several major airlines making similar announcements.

Recently, IndiGo announced its own fuel charge for both domestic and international flights starting March 14.

The extra fee per person varies by route: ₹425 for domestic and Indian subcontinent flights, and ₹900 for the Middle East.

Longer routes will incur higher charges, with ₹1,800 for Southeast Asia, China, Africa, and West Asia, and up to ₹2,300 for Europe.

The Air India group has also announced a phased implementation of fuel surcharges on its domestic and international routes in response to rising jet fuel prices.
