Although traffic authorities did not reveal the reason for the extended stoppage, it is common for traffic to be paused in the morning on this stretch to allow the passage of Amarnath yatra convoys.
As a result of the hold-up, a long line of vehicles formed along the highway stretching from the Navyug tunnel to Mir Bazar in Kulgam district.
”Attempts are underway to resolve the situation promptly and restore traffic flow on the highway,” traffic officials stated.

Largest Amarnath batch departs
In the meantime, a record single-day batch of 9,837 pilgrims set off for the Amarnath Yatra from Anantnag with stringent security measures in place. The pilgrims departed in a convoy of 361 vehicles, marking the largest single-day movement of devotees since this year’s annual pilgrimage commenced.
