The travel platform ixigo has rolled out an AI-driven version of its mobile app, showcasing a revamped user experience centered on conversational and agent-based artificial intelligence.

The updated app integrates AI throughout the travel process, enabling users to organize and reserve flights and accommodations using voice, text, or tap inputs, moving beyond traditional search filters and multi-screen navigation.

At the core of the enhanced platform is an AI assistant named TARA, which the company has reformulated as a multimodal interface adept at managing travel inquiries, generating recommendations, and facilitating booking activities within the app. It currently supports English, Hindi, and Hinglish, with plans to add more languages in the future.
The assistant is designed to handle both structured and unstructured requests, encompassing multi-city itineraries and specific lodging preferences. The company indicated that it can also provide personalized suggestions based on user history and context within the application.
ixigo has stated that TARA can deliver proactive travel updates, including flight status, scheduling changes, weather updates, and airport details like terminals and gate information.

The platform has launched a new feature called Trip Mode, which aggregates post-booking travel details such as boarding passes, gate information, baggage updates, and real-time alerts into a single interface. Additionally, this feature offers contextual travel assistance, including recommendations on departure times taking traffic conditions into account.

Another innovation, referred to by the company as agentic travel flows, enables automated systems to manage specific travel-related tasks seamlessly in the background. This includes sending boarding passes to users, integrating them into digital wallets, and sharing them with government-supported digital identity systems where appropriate.

The company also mentioned that its systems can track flight schedules, send alerts for delays or cancellations, and assist with refund processes. Some of these features are optional, they noted.

The app boasts a redesigned homepage featuring customized content based on user activity and travel history, alongside a refreshed interface design that includes a dark mode option.
