Traveling to Delhi-NCR this weekend? Review the weather forecast before you pack!

If you’re considering a weekend trip or a brief escape in and around Delhi-NCR, it’s advisable to build some flexibility into your plans. Active monsoon conditions are projected to continue through the weekend, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting overcast skies, thunderstorms, and intermittent rain on both Saturday (August 1) and Sunday (August 2). The rain is not anticipated to be constant, but short bursts could impact travel plans and outdoor activities across the area.

On Saturday, considerable cloud cover is expected throughout the day, with morning thunderstorms likely transitioning to light rain in the afternoon — a perfect time for indoor attractions, museums, or extended café visits instead of outdoor activities. Temperatures are projected to range from 27°C to 34°C. While the rain may provide some relief from the heat, high humidity is expected to keep conditions sticky for much of the day, making breathable clothing a more practical choice than heavy layers.

Sunday is expected to mirror Saturday. The IMD has predicted another cloudy day with light rain or brief showers likely in the afternoon and evening. Maximum temperatures are expected around 34°C, with a minimum around 28°C. Those driving in or around the city should allow extra time: isolated periods of heavier rain could lead to waterlogging in problematic areas and slow down traffic during peak hours, especially around Minto Bridge, ITO, Ring Road, the Pul Prahladpur underpass, as well as parts of Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad which suffer from poor drainage.

Much of the weekend should still be suitable for outdoor activities with a little preparation. Bring an umbrella or rain jacket, keep an eye on the sky later in the day when rain becomes more probable, and allow extra travel time during the evening rush.

Travellers with plans extending into next week should be aware that the pattern isn’t set to change anytime soon. The IMD anticipates favourable monsoon conditions over Delhi-NCR through the first half of the week, with cloudy skies, intermittent light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and isolated gusty winds forecasted between Monday (August 3) and Thursday (August 6).

Daytime temperatures are expected to remain in the low-to-mid 30s°C, with overnight lows in the mid-to-upper 20s°C. No extended heavy rain is expected, but occasional afternoon and evening showers are likely as the monsoon remains active.
