Vande Bharat Sleeper Launched: Highlights, Route Details, Schedule, and More Vande Bharat Sleeper Launched: Highlights, Route Details, Schedule, and More
Are you planning a journey between Pune and Bengaluru? This recent announcement could transform your travel experience. A new Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is being developed, promising a significantly quicker and more enjoyable ride. You can board at night, rest throughout the trip, and awaken at your destination the following morning. The total travel time is anticipated to be around 13 hours, much shorter than current alternatives.

Currently, trains such as the Udyan Express take over 18 hours, while the Coimbatore Express can stretch to nearly 19 hours and 20 minutes. This upcoming service aims to reduce that journey duration while enhancing comfort.

Route and launch timeline
Official approval for the new sleeper train operating between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and KSR Bengaluru Railway Station was granted on April 5, 2026. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed this development in a letter sent to MP PC Mohan. This will mark India’s second Vande Bharat Sleeper train, following the inaugural service on the Howrah-Kamakhya route launched on January 17, 2026.

The train will commence from Mumbai, passing through Pune, Solapur, and Wadi before arriving in Bengaluru. Certain segments of the route, including Daund-Wadi and Wadi-Guntakal, have been upgraded to accommodate speeds of up to 130 kmph.

Alternative paths via Kalaburagi or Hubballi are also being evaluated. The service is projected to commence by December 2026, though a specific launch date has yet to be confirmed.

Schedule, fare and booking details

This train is expected to operate six days a week, reserving one day for maintenance. It is likely to depart around 9 pm from both terminuses, ensuring smooth overnight travel. Two train sets will be utilized to maintain frequency in both directions.

Fare estimates indicate approximately ₹ 2,500 for AC 3-tier, ₹ 3,000 to ₹ 3,200 for AC 2-tier, and ₹ 3,600 to ₹ 3,900 for First AC. There will be no dynamic pricing, and meals will be included in the fare. The booking system will adhere to a strict policy where only fully confirmed tickets will be issued, excluding RAC or waitlist options.

Features and capacity

The train will comprise 16 coaches, accommodating a total of 823 passengers. This includes 11 AC 3-tier coaches, 4 AC 2-tier coaches, and 1 First AC coach. Passengers can look forward to modern amenities such as orthopaedic berths, reading lights, charging points, and soft night illumination. First AC will include added features like showers and baby care facilities.
