Noida International Airport in Jewar celebrated the arrival of its inaugural scheduled commercial flight on Monday, officially commencing passenger services. This event comes almost three months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport on March 28.

The first scheduled flight, IndiGo 6E-2278, landed at the airport from Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport at 7:55 am. After touching down in Jewar, the aircraft continued to its next stop in Bengaluru, with an expected arrival time of 11:05 am.

This launch signifies a major advancement in the development of India’s aviation infrastructure, markedly improving connectivity throughout Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region (NCR).
The arrival was celebrated at the airport. Passengers onboard applauded to mark the successful landing, while airport officials greeted the aircraft with a ceremonial water salute.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu officiated the launch of operations at the airport, which is poised to become a significant aviation center for the NCR.

In a noteworthy detail, around 170 farmers from the Jewar area were slated to take the inaugural flight to Lucknow. The delegation, led by Jewar legislator Dhirendra Singh, aims to meet Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and express appreciation for the developmental initiatives surrounding the airport.

The airport is anticipated to reduce the burden on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, markedly enhancing connectivity for residents in surrounding areas. Previously, many travelers journeying between Noida and Lucknow depended on Delhi’s airport or faced lengthy road trips.

Constructed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, this project represents one of India’s largest greenfield airport constructions. The first phase was developed with an investment of around ₹11,200 crore. It features a 3,900-metre runway designed to accommodate wide-body aircraft and is equipped with state-of-the-art navigation technology.

Essential information for travellers

The airport provides a new access point connecting western Uttar Pradesh and the NCR with essential domestic destinations. The return flight, IndiGo 6E-2279, is set to leave Noida at 6:55 pm, with an arrival in Lucknow scheduled for 8 pm.

New travel opportunities

Starting June 16, Akasa Air is set to begin daily flights from Noida International Airport to Bengaluru and Navi Mumbai, broadening travel options for passengers.

New routes from Noida Airport

IndiGo is offering direct flights from Noida International Airport to over 16 various destinations across India, significantly augmenting travel choices for those in Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh.

Passengers can connect between city pairs such as Amritsar-Jodhpur, Bareilly-Bhopal, Bareilly-Jaipur, Chandigarh-Pantnagar, Jammu-Jodhpur, Jaipur-Dharamshala, and Kishangarh-Bhopal, among others.

Regular flights to key cities
