India has been placed 125th out of 197 nations in the Global Passport Index 2026, falling one position from the previous year, as reported by Global Citizen Solutions.

The index reveals that India’s composite score climbed to 45.1, marking its highest rating in five years. It ranks just below Namibia, at 124th, and above Azerbaijan, at 126th.

The Global Passport Index assesses passports based on three primary dimensions: Enhanced Mobility (50%), Investment (25%), and Quality of Life (25%). The evaluation employs 14 indicators, drawing data from sources such as the World Bank, the World Economic Forum, and the Sustainable Development Report.
European nations dominated the top 10 positions in the Global Passport Index 2026, with Sweden leading the list; Singapore was the only non-European country represented in the top tier.

The leading 10 passports in the Global Passport Index 2026 are:

  1. Sweden
  2. Switzerland
  3. Finland
  4. Germany
  5. Netherlands
  6. Denmark
  7. Ireland
  8. United Kingdom
  9. Norway
  10. Singapore

As highlighted in the index, Indian passport holders can access numerous destinations through visa-free, visa-on-arrival, and eVisa options. Nevertheless, traveling to many developed countries typically necessitates procuring a visa in advance.
