Severe rainfall has led to significant disruptions in flight operations in Mumbai and Pune, prompting IndiGo to release a travel advisory for its passengers. The airline reported that poor weather conditions have affected both arrivals and departures, resulting in delays and diversions. It has advised travellers to verify their flight status prior to arriving at the airport.

Passengers traveling to or from Mumbai and Pune are encouraged to keep an eye on real-time flight updates and to allocate additional time for travel as weather conditions continue to disrupt operations.
Mumbai’s persistent monsoon is still causing disruptions at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), leading airlines to issue new travel advisories on July 6 as delays and schedule changes remain a concern.

In an updated statement, Akasa Air noted, “Due to heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Pune, and Goa, some flights across our network may experience delays,” and advised passengers to check their flight status before setting out for the airport.

IndiGo similarly cautioned that “Bad weather over Mumbai may influence flight schedules,” stating that it is vigilantly monitoring the situation and providing assistance to passengers.

This disruption came on the heels of severe operational impacts the previous day, when CSMIA was recorded as the most disrupted airport in the world on Flightradar24.

On July 5, at least four flights were canceled and 13 were diverted due to adverse weather. Data indicated an average delay of about 50 minutes, with approximately 22% of flights affected.

An official statement from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport revealed that runway operations were temporarily halted for an hour between 10:17 am and 11:17 am on July 5 due to heavy rainfall, reduced visibility, and gusty winds reaching up to 42 knots, impacting safety.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Mumbai, predicting extremely heavy rainfall along with strong winds. Authorities have cautioned that these conditions may continue to affect air, road, and rail networks throughout the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

This season, Mumbai has already surpassed normal rainfall levels, increasing strains on infrastructure and transportation systems. The ongoing spell is among the most severe phases of the monsoon thus far, with repeated weather alerts and disruptions reported in recent days.

Airlines are advising passengers to allow for extra travel time, keep track of real-time updates, and avoid non-essential travel, as weather-related delays are likely to persist.
