The Kailash Manasarovar Yatra 2025 officially began on Friday (June 14), with the inaugural group of pilgrims being sent off from the Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan in New Delhi and the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Bhawan in Ghaziabad. The Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, officiated at the send-off, with the Ministry of External Affairs releasing a statement expressing gratitude to China for its assistance in resuming the Yatra. “In his remarks, he acknowledged the cooperation of the Chinese side in facilitating the Yatra’s return,” the statement indicated.

The minister congratulated the selected pilgrims and wished them a safe and spiritually enriching journey. He also recognized the collective efforts of various governmental bodies and agencies that played a crucial role in enabling the pilgrimage.

Margherita emphasized the participation of several key agencies, including the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and the state governments of Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Sikkim, along with the National Informatics Centre.

The Government of India organizes the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra every year from June to September via two designated routes — the Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand, operational since 1981, and the Nathu La Pass in Sikkim, in use since 2015.

The Yatra is regarded as one of the most sacred pilgrimages in Hinduism and also holds importance for followers of Jainism and Buddhism. It encompasses the arduous trek to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar, situated in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
