On Saturday, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha urged all prospective pilgrims to participate in the Amarnath Yatra only after securing a valid registration permit for their assigned date.

He emphasized that only registered yatris will be granted access to the holy cave shrine on their specified date.

This appeal arises amidst an unexpected influx of pilgrims arriving in J-K without proper registration.
The 57-day pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre-high Amarnath cave shrine commenced on July 3 via the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter, steeper 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district. The yatra is scheduled to conclude on August 28.

In the first two days, over 26,000 pilgrims have participated in the yatra.

The LG led a high-level review meeting to evaluate the overall management and conditions surrounding the ongoing annual Amarnath Yatra that started on Friday.

“I reviewed the overall management and conditions related to the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 at a high-level meeting today. I appeal to all intending pilgrims to undertake the Yatra only after obtaining a valid Yatra Registration Permit for their assigned date,” the LG stated on X.

He reiterated that only registered pilgrims for their specified date will be allowed to proceed to the holy shrine.

An official spokesperson confirmed that the LG assessed the movement of pilgrims, traffic management, security measures, accommodation, registration status, and logistical aspects to ensure the yatra’s smooth and safe execution.

During the meeting, it was noted that an unusually high number of pilgrims have been arriving without valid registration, resulting in longer waiting times for those wishing to undertake the yatra.

The spokesperson mentioned that the LG stressed that the yatra is being conducted in compliance with the prescribed limit of pilgrim movement along the pilgrimage routes, as per the Supreme Court’s directives.

Thus, adherence to the registration schedule is crucial for ensuring the safety, security, and convenience of all pilgrims.

It was reiterated that only pilgrims with valid registration for their assigned date will be allowed to proceed on the paths to the holy cave shrine, the spokesperson added.

Sinha urged prospective unregistered pilgrims to delay their travel for a few days to avoid inconvenience upon arriving in Jammu and Kashmir.

The administration has, therefore, requested all intending pilgrims to complete the necessary registration process and obtain a valid yatra registration permit for their assigned date before beginning their journey to J-K.

Pilgrims are advised not to travel without confirmed registration, as they will not be allowed to participate in the yatra, the spokesperson indicated.

LG Sinha also evaluated the security and logistical arrangements for the yatra.

He instructed all departments and security agencies to maintain close coordination and continuous communication with all stakeholders, including langar organizations, service providers, and NGOs, to ensure a safe, seamless, spiritually fulfilling yatra.

Meanwhile, during a press conference, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Anshul Garg, noted that in recent days, many visitors and yatris have arrived in J-K without registration and faced some inconveniences.

Garg stated that the yatra has been proceeding smoothly, with 26,000 yatris having had darshan of the naturally formed ice-lingam in the south Kashmir Himalayas in the first two days.

However, the divisional commissioner emphasized that only registered pilgrims will receive the mandatory RFID cards and be permitted to continue with the yatra.

“Tatkal quota is limited, and only a few pilgrims can be accommodated under that quota. Yatris arriving without registration will need to wait for a few days as RFID card services cannot be extended to them, preventing them from proceeding with the yatra for now. Only registered yatris will be granted access,” Garg stated, accompanied by inspector general of police, Kashmir, V K Birdi.

He also noted that many pilgrims arrived in J-K ahead of their registered date for the yatra.

“We appeal to them to undertake the yatra only on their registered date to prevent any inconvenience,” he stated, emphasizing the administration’s goal to facilitate all pilgrims but insisting that they must wait for their turn and register online in advance to avoid issues.
