This feature enables travellers to reserve early check-in or late check-out slots for three, six, or nine-hour intervals at the time of booking. The company states that this system aims to replace on-the-spot requests with confirmed, pre-booked time extensions.
According to MakeMyTrip, this offering is designed to accommodate instances where travellers arrive early following overnight journeys or leave late in the evening, when standard check-in and check-out times often do not align with their travel itineraries.
The company referenced internal booking statistics showing that many travellers reach their destinations before the standard check-in times or leave after the standard check-out hours, especially on both domestic and international routes.
In international markets, MakeMyTrip noted that similar trends are evident on short-haul routes like Singapore, Bangkok, and Hanoi, as well as on long-haul journeys to places such as New York, where early arrivals are frequent, while typical hotel check-in times usually fall between 2 pm and 3 pm.
To tackle this issue, the platform will also suggest early check-in or late check-out options during the booking process, tailored to a traveller’s flight, train, or bus schedule, according to the company. This feature aims to ensure confirmed room access in advance and enhance hotel inventory utilization.
Abhishek Logani, Chief Business Officer – Hotels at MakeMyTrip, stated that flexibility and guaranteed access are becoming crucial factors in booking decisions, alongside price and location. He noted a positive reception from hotel partners and mentioned plans to extend this feature to more properties and markets.
MakeMyTrip indicated that this feature is available at partnered properties in India and certain international locations, including Dubai, Bangkok, Pattaya, Bali, and Kuala Lumpur.
