A regal Rajasthan journey | India’s legendary luxury train, the Palace on Wheels, has commenced a unique six-day voyage starting May 20. Travelers can enjoy a royal exploration through prominent locations in Rajasthan, including Udaipur, Jaisalmer, and Bikaner. The train set off from Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station, covering nearly 2,610 kilometres, ensuring an exquisite blend of heritage, comfort, and cultural encounters across the region.
A summer journey after 40 years | Since its inauguration on January 26, 1982, the Palace on Wheels has earned its reputation as India’s first luxury heritage train. Managed collaboratively by the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) and Indian Railways (IR), it has historically operated from September to April, avoiding the scorching summer months in Rajasthan. However, heightened demand has led to the introduction of service in May for the first time in 45 years.
A fusion of heritage and modern luxury | The Palace on Wheels is crafted to replicate the experience of royal travel, featuring 14 saloon coaches, two opulent restaurant cars, spa facilities, and dedicated butler service. Each carriage is adorned with regal decor, intricately carved wooden furnishings, and elements inspired by the princely states of Rajasthan. Guests can also enjoy amenities such as complimentary Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and en-suite bathrooms.
A slice of history | The design of the Palace on Wheels is inspired by the Viceroy of India, the Nizam families of Hyderabad, and Rajputana families of Rajasthan. Each cabin reflects the opulent heritage, named after a royal princely state that was once governed by the Rajputs.
Pricing and Inclusions | The fare for the Palace on Wheels varies based on the season and the choice between single or double occupancy. Starting from USD 6048 per person for double occupancy during low season, the fare includes accommodations, all meals, sightseeing tours, entrance fees for monuments and palaces, a camel ride in Jaisalmer, a shared jeep safari in Ranthambhore, a boat ride in Udaipur, and a rickshaw ride at the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary.
