The ban, which was first imposed on December 9, 2024, was initiated amid escalating regional tensions. It escalated to a total restriction in December 2025 when visa centres were closed.
“The association first implemented restrictions in December 2024, which later progressed to a full ban on accommodations for all travelers in December 2025 after the shutdown of visa centres,” the statement indicated.

With the ban now rescinded, Bangladeshi tourists and visitors can once again reserve accommodations in Siliguri hotels.
The association announced the immediate removal of all restrictions regarding Bangladeshi nationals’ accommodations in member hotels throughout Siliguri, West Bengal.
This decision follows the establishment of a democratically elected government in Bangladesh on February 17, with Tarique Rahman taking office as the new prime minister, thus concluding Muhammad Yunus’ 18-month term.
“In light of recent developments, the Greater Siliguri Hoteliers Welfare Association held a formal vote among its member hoteliers, resulting in a majority favoring the resumption of services,” the statement noted.
“This decision aligns with the recent positive diplomatic shifts following the formation of Bangladesh’s new government on February 17, 2026.”
“Given the recent relaxation of cross-border travel restrictions by both nations, the association acknowledges the shared goal of improving relations,” it added.
While the association is lifting the ban on Bangladeshi guests, they emphasized that India’s safety and respect are paramount. They cautioned that any future incidents of disrespect or provocative behavior would lead to the reinstatement of strict measures.
“Even as we lift the ban, the association strongly asserts that national interests take precedence. Should there be any future instances of disrespect or provocative remarks toward our country, we will act decisively once more,” the statement emphasized.
Initially imposed in December 2024 due to strained India-Bangladesh relations, the temporary restrictions were triggered by alleged disrespect towards the Indian flag and provocative actions by some Bangladeshi citizens, leading to a complete ban by December 2025.
All hotels affiliated with the association have been instructed to adhere strictly to legal and security guidelines, which include meticulous passport and visa checks and timely submission of Form C with the FRRO.
The notice underscores, “Safety remains our top priority. Every member hotel is required to diligently follow all legal and security protocols.”
