Pilgrims embarking on the Char Dham Yatra are urged to exercise caution following an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Uttarakhand on May 12 and 13. The alert warns of rain and unstable weather, particularly in the hill districts of the state.

Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey has advised both pilgrims and tourists to keep a close watch on weather updates before starting their journeys, as reported by news agency ANI.

He warned that adverse weather conditions could occur in the mountain regions over the next couple of days and stressed the importance of prioritizing safety.
“Pilgrims should stay updated with the latest weather information and plan their trips with caution,” Pandey commented in a statement reflected by ANI.

The commissioner further suggested that devotees consider delaying their travel until the weather improves, noting that it would be safer and more convenient to travel once conditions stabilize. He also urged pilgrims to adhere to the guidelines set by district authorities and local administrations during the yatra.

The IMD’s Char Dham sector nowcast revealed light rainfall and thunderstorms along various pilgrimage routes, including Rishikesh to Rudraprayag, Rudraprayag to Kedarnath, Joshimath to Badrinath, Uttarkashi to Gangotri, and Barkot to Yamunotri.

The weather agency anticipates light rain, measuring under 5 mm per hour, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds below 40 kmph in several stretches of the yatra route between 9 am and 12 noon on May 11.

At the same time, routes such as Haridwar to Rishikesh, Rishikesh to Tehri, Tehri to Uttarkashi, and Mussoorie to Haridwar are under “no warning” status during this period.

Officials have stated that the state administration has instructed all departments involved in the pilgrimage to maintain readiness and ensure sufficient safety measures for pilgrims.

The annual Char Dham Yatra, which commenced last month, draws millions of pilgrims each year to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.
