India has updated its advisory regarding travel to Iran, urging its citizens to refrain from visiting the country and advising those currently there to depart using available transportation options.

In an advisory released on Monday, the Indian Embassy in Tehran emphasized the need to repeat its previous recommendations in light of the recent developments in the region.

“In light of the recent developments in the region, the Embassy reiterates its earlier counsel to all Indian Nationals to avoid any travel to Iran,” stated the embassy.

The mission also encouraged Indians currently in Iran to exit the country. “Indian Nationals presently in Iran are also advised to exit the country by available means of transport,” it mentioned.

This renewed advisory comes amid ongoing tensions in the region. On Monday, Israel conducted airstrikes in central and western Iran following missile attacks originating from Iran.

Previously, on April 7, India had advised its nationals in Iran to stay put for 48 hours as the security situation progressed.

According to official estimates, roughly 9,000 Indians, including students, were in Iran when the conflict escalated. Nearly 1,800 Indian nationals have since returned to India.
